Well, here it is, Monday again. I feel like I spend my week ticking off the days to Friday, and then its just Monday all over again. Doesn't help I'm working Saturdays again. The thing I LOVE about Saturday overtime is I choose what time I get up and how many hours I plan on working. 10a to 3p is my normal routine, although I've been known to work 9a to 2p instead. But, sleeping in and not hearing an alarm is the most important aspect of weekends, and I rarely give that up.
I finally got that 2nd Ave short story finished, polished (hopefully; I did my own editing on the last bit) and submitted. Word count right at 7300. This started out as a writers group exercise of about 250 words, then was expanded to 1800, then grew to 2500, submitted to one e-zine (rejected) and was ready for the recycle bin before I discovered the Second Avenue Second Hand opportunity. Out of the 7300 words it is now, I think only about 600 of the original still remains. The spooky sentiment, the basement, the murder, the tiny red shoe.
Is it weird of me to think of it as the same story I started with, despite the massive rewrite?
Speaking of rewrites - I should be getting my editing requests from OHP An Honest Lie Vol 4, Petulant Parables soon. Did you catch DL Hammons (Cruising Altitude) author interview at the blog of OHP junior editor Eric Trant (Digging with the Worms) on Friday 8/17? Excellent insights into DLs writing process and his awesome support group. Check it out if you haven't yet. And don't forget WRiTE CLUB is battling round 8 this week at DLs blog. Be sure to sign up on the link and leave your vote. You can still get in your own writing for the competition, up until week 12.
These last couple months have been hectic for me with longer and more hours at the day job, critiquing a full length novel, beta reading a couple short story/chapter excerpts, writing my own story, and keeping up with some blogs/blogfests. I'm tired.
My daughter is spending a few days with me this week, its perfect timing for a posting break.
I'll be lurking through my google reader, and commenting sometimes, but for the next week or so, I'll be pouring my energies into completing some RFW posts (and writing for the fortnightly challenges), writing reviews for the books I've read over the last few months, and staring at my e-mail for a messages from OHP and Lemon Twist Press.
And maybe try to come up with a 2k-5k short story for Writers Tool Box. I need another writing to obsess over, and possibly force me to complete one more of the start-ups I have languishing in unopened files.
Please stop by today's Romantic Friday Writers Share Your News post and say hello to three of our members, Madeleine Maddocks, Kiru Taye, JL Campbell, while they share updates on their writing successes. If you don't already know these awesome blogger/authors, you will enjoy the introduction.
Have a good week or two bloggy buddies . .

Have fun with all the reviews and catching up, yeah can't wait for Friday too.
Enjoy your time with your daughter, Donna! 7300 words is a long short story.
Short stories are my favourite :)
Good luck with all of your goals and enjoy that quality mom-daughter time, Donna! Hope you had a great weekend!
Enjoy your time with your daughter. But I understand about lurking as I'm taking a vacation but still mingling about Blogdom.
Hi, Donna,
Man, you are a BUSY woman. I still don't know how you do it.
I just read the rules for the 2nd Ave contest... I am actually considering banging out a story for this... should I dare? Would it be awesome?
Who knows ... I am a creature of many moods... LOL. I just thing it may be time for me to write something new, and this seems to be a very FUN project. Besides if you're involved in it, it makes it that much more fun for me!
Miss you...
Michael
You write some of the most carefully crafted reviews out there. Your short stories are even better.
I hope your daughter's visit is every bit of fun you wish it to be. You do sound to be busy. I wish you well on your short story entry to 2nd Avenue. Alas, my luck is dismal with short stories.
Have a great time each day. If you only live for the weekend, then five sevenths of your life is merely endured. May today be special in some way, Roland
I think that's all we're supposed to do. Since you and I are not in the 1%, we count our days til Friday, suddenly it's Monday again and we start it all over. And then we just die off from old age or some disease that our mediocre insurance won't pay for. Meh.
Hi Donna .. have a happy weekend with your daughter - does that leave you time for writing et al .. enjoy the break and have fun .. that's the main thing ... cheers Hilary
